New Cobalt takes it for me, no doubt about it.

Marduk is good, not my call for best BM album of year.
Liturgy is good, really good.
WITTR is always good.
The Ruins Of Beverast is fabulous.
Altar Of Plauges is really good to.
Cobalt is awesome
But right now Liturgy is up at top for my fave BM album of the year.

Inform yourself and check them out. A particularly righteous track is Pagan Dawn... in my opinion... heh... righteous...

Liturgy is what could be considered art fag(post-rock) black metal but more towards the noisy, abrassive side; like Walknut or Wrath Of The Weak mixed with some of the beauty of Drudkh or WITTR. Something that should be checked out. On a added note about the band; the drummer has one of the smallest kits ever. A bass drum, snare and two cymbals.

To add even more to the thread.

Drudkh is as always excellent
Oranssi Pazuzu is true oddball psychedelic blackfuck
1349 was odd, good but odd
Myrkr is a good listen, even of for only a one night stand
Fen is okay

The new Arckanum is better than their later releases, and Anticosmos is excellent...

I listened to this Liturgy band...

Everything seemed superficial... the "abrasion", the quirky melodicisms... I don't hear the similarity to Walknut, a band in which I value artistic integrity and honesty, even if it is mostly third-rate imitation...

I also downloaded the new RoB album... and I look forward to the initial listens.

I was going more for the buz and fuzz of the abrassion of such bands as Walknut and the like. Not sounding much like them though, so, bad on me.

Ahh, I suppose the production and tones are similar, then, though Walknut is definitely "deeper" sounding...
