OBSCURA DROP OFF RELAPSE CONTAMINATION TOUR

German tech death-metallers Obscura have been forced to drop off the current Relapse Contamination tour. Vocalist-guitarist Steffen Kummerer has released the following statement:

“Several nights ago, after struggling with illness throughout this tour, I’ve lost my singing voice entirely and can barely speak. At this juncture, it’s best for me to rest rather than deliver anything less than exceptional performances. For all the cities we’ll miss, we’ll be back in the winter to make up these dates. Thanks to everyone who made our first North American tour so amazing. We’re looking forward to returning again in the winter.”

IRON MAIDEN SUES ‘IRON AND THE MAIDEN’ COMIC

Legendary British metal band Iron Maiden is suing a small comic company—Iron and the Maiden, LLC—for producing the comic book Iron and the Maiden, because their “confusingly similar” name is, according to the band, a way to profit off of their heavily-trademarked image.

The band went on to sue Johann Philip Sibenkees, inventor of the iron maiden torture device in 1790s Nuremburg, and God for inventing fire.

WINO BASSIST, JON BLANK, DIES

On Saturday, May 2, Jonathan Matthew Blank—bassist for doom-metal icon Wino’s recent solo work as well as for D.C. stoner rockers Rezin—passed away of a drug overdose. He was in his mid 30s. “He just got back in the States from an amazing European music tour on Friday,” his sister Andrea wrote on Rezin’s blog. “He was doing so well and, well, I guess he thought he was invincible and wanted to celebrate his return. I can’t even begin to imagine how he really felt though.” In addition to Wino and Rezin, Blank played in a Wretched, Cause to Believe, Fragment 37, and a Black Crowes tribute band, Amorica. He also performed with Colouring Lesson’s Dave Hill and occasionally did solo gigs. Revolver sends our condolences to his family and friends.

CHILDREN OF BODOM FRONTMAN BREAKS SHOULDER

Apparently, Children Of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho has broken his shoulder by falling off of his bunk.

At the Kansas City, Missouri, stop of Bodom’s current tour with Lamb of God, Laiho made the following announcement: “I've gotta tell you something. Three nights ago, I fucking fell down from my bunk on the fucking tour bus, and I broke my fucking shoulder, so I've got a fucking broken bone right now. I fucking apologize—I can't fucking move, I can't fucking sing; I'm fucking just standing here like a fucking idiot, so fucking try to bear with me, alright?!”

Revolver sends best fucking wishes to that speedy fucking Finn and hopes his fucked-up shoulder gets fucking better so he can rock the fuck out of our fucking city in time. FUCK, man.
